Windows 10 apparently not compatible with Family Tree Maker 2011

I have just installed Family Tree Maker 2011 on my computer which runs on Windows 10 and I have been unable to access it at all. What is the answer to this problem?

Hello Ian,
thank you for posting this question.

Family Tree Maker 2011 isn't compatible with Windows 10. As printed on the back of the disc box, it only works with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7. Only the latest update of Family Tree Maker 2014 is compatible with Windows 10 computer operating system.

You may find it available for purchase on MacKiev software's website here.

Sadly Avanquest is no longer distributor of Ancestry's Family Tree Maker.

This article here is part of Ancestry's FAQ list and explains how to backup your trees either by synchronizing it with your Ancestry account or creating a backup file. Click here to read how to Import backup file or sign-in your Ancestry account.

Does the same apply to Write your own Novel Pro?  I have the standard version dated 2007 which works in windows 10.  But the Pro version is dated 2004 and refuses to install in windows 10?  What version do I need to buy for it to work in Windows 10?

Thanbks

Rick

Hello Richard,
thank you for leaving this comment on Avanquest UK forum webpage.

Regardless of which edition (Standard or Professional) Write Your Own Novel with catalogue number GSPCD124X is only compatible with  Windows 2000, No Operating System, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows Me, Windows XP

Version 2 of Write Your Own Novel with catalogue number GSPCD2378X is designed to suite computer operating systems: Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7

As you've successfully installed Write Your Own Novel 2 Standard on computer with Windows 10 you can try doing so with the professional edition too. Sadly we no longer distribute this software on our web-store, but you may still find it offered by sellers on Amazon.

Kind regards,
Avanquest Support team

Just thought I'd let you know that I acquired a professional copy that works on windows 10.  I also managed to get it working on a Linux (Slackware 14.1) computer with 'wine'  though you have to start it from the command line as it doesn't find the jre.

Thanks

Rick
